NIKOLA TESLA UND DIE US-BÖRSEN

Posted by hkarner - 12. April 2018

FURCHE-Kolumne 238 Wilfried Stadler

Tesla’s Make-Or-Break Moment Is Fast Approaching

The auto maker is racing to meet an ambitious production target for its Model 3 sedan

The Model 3 is Tesla’s mainstream electric-car offering and a key part of Elon Musk’s strategy to broaden the company’s business.

Elon Musk recently told attendees at the South by Southwest festival that two things are keeping him up at night: an apocalyptic future created by artificial intelligence, and production delays of Tesla Inc.’s Model 3 car.

Mr. Musk has good reason to worry about Tesla. The auto maker is entering one of the most critical phases in its history, a make-or-break period in which Tesla must boost production of the Model 3 or possibly face severe financial consequences.

In April, Tesla will reveal whether it is on track to meet an ambitious second-quarter target of producing 5,000 Model 3s a week—a goal that it already twice delayed. The Model 3 is Tesla’s mainstream electric-car offering, priced more affordably than Tesla’s luxury models, and a key part of Mr. Musk’s strategy to broaden the company’s business. Elon Musk’s Boring Company

Making tunnels the way you make spaceships
The principles of Mr Musk’s approach

ELON MUSK can seem flakily up himself. His newish tunnelling business appears to be a case in point. The project has a cute name (the Boring Company), a wacky way of raising money (an “Initial Hat Offering” raised almost $1m by selling baseball caps), a physicist-knows-best approach to a social problem (putting private cars on high-speed underground trolleys to reduce urban congestion) and a quirky, memorable goal (to produce a tunnelling machine that goes faster than a snail, in this case a snail called Gary). But it also showcases the techniques that have made Mr Musk a success.

Chris Anderson, the curator of TED, a non-profit organisation that spreads ideas, says that Mr Musk is “uniquely good at system-design thinking”. He reduces thorny problems to what he sees as their essence—typically expressed in terms of physics—and then extends his analysis to technologies, business systems, human psychology and design in an attempt to solve the issue. US-Investor Jim Chanos prophezeit Teslas Pleite

The Truth Is Catching Up With Tesla

CEO Elon Musk is a visionary, but there is a fine line between setting aggressive goals and misleading shareholders

New revelations about Tesla Inc.’s production of the highly anticipated Model 3 sedan should shock, but not surprise, investors.

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Tesla has recently been building major portions of the Model 3 by hand. This comes less than a week after Tesla announced it fell short of its third-quarter production guidance of 1,500 cars by more than 80%.

At the time, Tesla attributed the shortfall to “production bottlenecks.” On Friday, Tesla said it would postpone its launch event for a new truck to November to deal with Model 3 issues and to help provide assistance to Puerto Rico.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk is known as a risk-taker, which has endeared him to Wall Street analysts and investors alike. There is a fine line, however, between setting aggressive goals and misleading shareholders. Den Rest des Beitrags lesen »

Elon Musk says AI could lead to third world war

North Korea ‘low on our list of concerns’ says Tesla boss following Putin’s statement that whoever leads in AI will rule world

What does he see in there? Is it the future? Is it the true nature of reality itself? No one knows. (It is a Hyperloop test track.)

Elon Musk has said again that artificial intelligence could be humanity’s greatest existential threat, this time by starting a third world war.

The prospect clearly weighs heavily on Musk’s mind, since the SpaceX, Tesla and Boring Company chief tweeted at 2.33am Los Angeles time about how AI could led to the end of the world – without the need for the singularity.

His fears were prompted by a statement from Vladimir Putin that “artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all humankind … It comes with colossal opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict. Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.” Den Rest des Beitrags lesen »

Elon Musk: AI ‘vastly more risky than North Korea’

Tesla head warns of dangers of AI and pushes for regulation as OpenAI he backed beats best human players in online DotA 2 championship

Musk warns AI greater risk than North Korea as firm he backs bests humans in online combat.

Elon Musk has warned again about the dangers of artificial intelligence, saying that it poses “vastly more risk” than the apparent nuclear capabilities of North Korea does.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief executive took to Twitter to once again reiterate the need for concern around the development of AI, following the victory of Musk-led AI development over professional players of the Dota 2 online multiplayer battle game.

This is not the first time Musk has stated that AI could potentially be one of the most dangerous international developments. He said in October 2014 that he considered it humanity’s “biggest existential threat”, a view he has repeated several times while making investments in AI startups and organisations, including OpenAI, to “keep an eye on what’s going on”. Elon Musk Lays Out Worst-Case Scenario for AI Threat

Powerful technology will threaten all human jobs, could even spark a war, Tesla CEO says

Elon Musk . Mr. Musk warned about the dangers of artificial intelligence and said high price of Tesla shares reflects the optimism of the future of the company.

Elon Musk warned a gathering of U.S. governors that they need to be concerned about the potential dangers from the rise of artificial intelligence and called for the creation of a regulatory body to guide development of the powerful technology.

Speaking Saturday at the National Governors Association meeting in Rhode Island, the chief executive of electric-car maker Tesla Inc. and rocket-maker Space Exploration Technologies Corp. laid out several worst-case scenarios for AI, saying that the technology will threaten all human jobs and that an AI could even spark a war. “It is the biggest risk that we face as a civilization,” he said.

Mr. Musk has been vocal about his concerns about AI and helped create OpenAI, a nonprofit research group that aims for the safe development of the technology. He suggested to the governors that a regulatory agency needs to be formed to begin gaining insight into fast-moving AI development followed by putting regulations into place. Elon Musk: The Man, the Myth, the Risk

Posted by hkarner - 9. Juni 2017

Date: 08-06-2017
Source: The Wall Street Journal

Tesla’s boss is a big part of the auto maker’s soaring value, but his jokes are no laughing matter.

Tesla Inc is one of the hottest stocks on the planet, thanks to investor belief in Elon Musk. Paradoxically, that might be the biggest risk investors face.

Take the events at Tuesday’s annual meeting, for instance. In response to a question about what the company CEO and chairman does in his time away from work, Mr. Musk said, in part, “Sometimes go crazy on Twitter. You know, sort of, red wine, vintage record player, some Ambien, magic! Magic happens.” The assembled crowd burst into laughter.

Investors certainly are laughing all the way to the bank at the moment. Tesla’s shares are up by about two-thirds just this year, propelling it to a significantly larger market value than more-established and profitable General Motors or Ford. The Model 3 mass market sedan is due to enter production next month, and the stock’s many short sellers are under significant pressure. Shares once again ripped higher Wednesday morning. Wahnsinn oder nicht? Tesla ist mehr wert als Ford

Posted by hkarner - 4. April 2017

4. April 2017, 16:51 derstandard.at
