FMA hat türkische Banken im Visier

Posted by hkarner - 2. August 2018

Dollarkredite weitergegeben, insbesondere an türkische Firmen. Der jüngste Verfall der türkischen Lira, die seit Jahresanfang ein Drittel ihres Wertes zum Euro verloren hat, macht es türkischen Firmen schwerer, ihre Fremdwährungskredite zu bedienen. Trump Advisers Urge Raising Additional China Tariffs to 25%

Washington hasn’t made meaningful headway in easing its market-rattling trade dispute with Beijing

The White House and Beijing haven’t  made much progress in trade talks.

As Washington and Beijing struggle to break a trade impasse, some administration advisers are urging President Trump to raise the stakes with a sharp increase in the level of tariffs proposed for $200 billion in Chinese imports targeted for punitive measures.

Trump administration advisers are debating measures that might bring Chinese negotiators to the table. Some are pushing the president to apply tariffs as high as 25% on $200 billion of Chinese imports, up from an original proposal for 10%.

The White House won’t make a final decision until at least late August on those tariffs, which are likely to target consumer goods and food as well as machinery components. Advisers are justifying the steeper tariffs, in part, to make up for the rapid depreciation of the yuan in recent months. Since May 30, the yuan has fallen 6% against the dollar. Is it time to automate politicians?

Posted by hkarner - 2. August 2018

When I watch few of them it looks as if they were already automated (Strache, Kickl, …) And – unfortunately – more often Sebastian Kurz!(hfk)

Robotic representation has some merits, says Alvin Carpio of The Fourth Group

A poll of British consumers conducted by software firm OpenText found that one in four Brits think robots would do a better job than humans as politicians. Years ago, The Muppet Show ran a segment mocking politicians for their stereotypical robotic behaviour. Last April a robot was nominated to run to be Tokyo’s mayor, promising fair and balanced representation.

In a world where reality is sometimes more bizarre than an episode of Black Mirror, what if we replaced our current politicians with algorithms? In a period where trust in politicians is low and government efficiency is questionable, might we be better off?

In 2017 The Fourth Group, an organisation I lead to shape technology for social good, ran a hackathon to automate politicians’ tasks. Coders, designers, politicians and policy experts gathered for two days and built new technologies. The winning team, Civic Triage, developed a chatbot to communicate with constituents. It aimed to replace weekly public meetings (known in Britain as “surgeries”) by texting people, acknowledging their concerns and pointing them to relevant local service providers. It’s not just hypothetical: Liam Byrne, a Labour Party MP, has met with other MPs to discuss using chatbots to engage with British citizens. Den Rest des Beitrags lesen »

Rethinking the Internet of Things

Posted by hkarner - 2. August 2018

Ken Hu

Ken Hu is Deputy Chairman and Rotating CEO at Huawei Technologies.

Every business in every industry could benefit from advances in digital connectivity, as the „Internet of Things“ allows people to manage assets better and make more fully informed decisions. But to realize the potential of IoT, the world must first reimagine how networks are used.

SHENZHEN – At a telecommunications conference hosted by Huawei late last year, I told a group of senior executives looking for growth opportunities in a saturated market that one billion new mobile subscribers were just waiting for their services. Then, I showed them a photo of a cow.

People took pictures of my presentation with their smartphones. Some chuckled; maybe they thought I was joking. But I was dead serious.

Chinese dairy farmers are already connecting their herds to the Internet. Cows wear collars with wireless sensors that collect biometric data such as body temperature and heart rate. Insights from this information are then used to improve milk production, helping farmers earn an extra $420 per cow each year, and increase overall profits by 50% annually.
